Jill and I help with a lot of weddings every year. Most recently we were part of the style shoot for Connecticut Bride in their current issue, but this wedding was special. My cousin Nicci was married a couple weeks ago just down river at the local marina. I'm so happy my aunt LIzanne had the time to write this guest blog. Obviously the mother of the bride has a much better perspective than the brides cousin :). With no further introductions, here is how my aunt described the day:
Just Call Me The Proud Mother of The Bride.
My daughter Nicci married Johnny, the love of her life and my favorite son-in-law, at Mystic Yachting Center on June 24th. I am also the proud aunt of Matt Beaudoin. So imagine my pleasure when Nicci and Johnny (who live in Pennsylvania) said they wanted to "tie the knot" and use as many knots as possible in their nautical themed wedding. They love coming to Mystic and going to the beach in RI. They vacation in the Outer Banks. Their home is decorated in a beachy theme. The nautical/knot theme sounded perfect...and it was!
The planning began nearly two years ago and our first order went in almost immediately. We had so much fun with Matt, Jill, Christa, and Amanda coming up with ideas and seeing them created. My cousin Ashley was our florist and she had her own set of ideas. Thank goodness Jill is a saint because she was always patient when we made changes and came up with even more ideas.
Ashley had the great idea of using the monkey fists without key rings and inserting tiny orchids in the loops. She scattered them on the bar for starters. It was so much fun spying these little nautical knotted touches. When I went to pick up the last order a few days before the wedding, I was able to watch Matt make the curtain tiebacks for the arbor. That memory is imprinted on my mind. The arbor was probably my favorite part of the décor. With the knotted curtain tiebacks, it was so unique.
Nicci liked an idea she saw on Pinterest using mason jars with twinkle lights inside. Amanda made a Turks head bracelet for every jar. Johnny and I "installed" all the twinkle lights. Amanda even put Turks head bracelets on three of the large vases we used. Nicci's bouquet rested in one of those vases.
Ashley also had the idea to add monkey fists to the bouquets. The stems were wrapped with rope and two monkey fists dangled under the flowers. Jill decorated the flower girl's basket so sweetly, wrapping the handle and adding monkey fists. Christa ran with the idea we had for marking the chairs and tied sea stars to rope (no glue!). It seems like everything had a knotted touch.
I would say that everyone enjoyed and appreciated the nautical theme. When Djae Melee invited everyone to take home the centerpieces, the guests took home the large monkey fists that had held the table names. I could go on and on... It was a beautiful occasion in every way. Thanks Matt, Jill, Christa, Amanda, and all the knot tie-ers at Mystic Knotwork. You made Nicci and Johnny's wedding day a reflection of their vision which they will never forget.
What a wonderful wedding! It was obviously put together with a lot of thought & love – I can’t say I’ve ever been to one quite as unique. Best wishes to the newly married couple.
