Turk's Head Knot marathon or The Pilings Project
The Piling Project...
Transforming our new shop at Olde Mistick Village is still in progress. Basically the finishing touches. And most spectacular are the new pilings arranged as a fence around our small courtyard. The plan was to tie turk's head knots on all of them and also wrap them in some old line from a fisherman friend. Well it is almost complete.
The pilings were cut in various lengths.
The giant auger got things going.
Post hole digger helped.
Tonka toy mini excavator on the job.
Pilings ready and waiting for their knots.

Nautical knot tying at it's best.
Shaping the knot.
Tucking the ends.
Getting there.
Even the local ducks came to watch.
You really need a sense of humor for this work.

Did I say we had benches?
As I drove home that day to stop in at the new shop, there was a surprise. Jill and matt were hanging colorful signal flags everywhere. Calling it 'Signal Flag Project'. And they spell out "Mystic Knotwork at Olde Mystic Village".

Grammar Police " to correct and serve"
The caption" Nautical knot tying at it’s best" should read “Nautical knot tying at its best.”
I made my first turk’s head bracelet in 1964 when I was a Cadet in the Youth Training Program at Mystic Seaport, with my Girl Scout Mariner ship. That bracelet was followed by several more. As an adult ( allegedly) I continued my adolescence with a sterling silver turk’s head bracelet.
