It looks like many people in Westerly and nearby Mystic, Stonington, Pawcatuck, and Voluntown sponsored a 6 ft. nutcracker to decorate for the Nutcracker walk. The walk celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce. Kick off for the event is Friday, Nov. 28, 3 - 7:30 p.m. at the United Theater, 5 Canal St., Westerly. RI.
Jill was asked by the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce of Westerly, to participate and of course she said yes. In the mean time we are working around this giant nutcracker that is taking up space in the shop, surprising us every time we turn the corner. He has a fishing rod with a beautiful macramé fish, manila epaulets and trim on his coat with coordinating wooden buttons. He also has a bird on his hat, not sure what that is about. Maybe it has it's eyes on the fish! His left hand holds a nautical monkey fist which he probably uses to help his lines reach the dock.
Here is what they are saying:
"This December, get ready for a larger-than-life holiday spectacle! A brigade of 100 towering, 6-foot-tall, hand-painted artisan Nutcrackers is marching into town to make this holiday season shimmer like never before. Each unique Nutcracker is brought to life by talented local artists and generously sponsored by businesses, nonprofits, schools, and families across our community. Join us for the official Nutcracker Trail Kickoff Event on Friday, November 28th from 3 to 7:30 PM. These joyful wooden soldiers are on a festive mission to spread cheer, guard holiday spirit, and greet guests outside storefronts and inside window displays all season long. Tickets will be available for purchase the day of the event at the United Theatre."

This Merman is definitely a beauty.
As a tie in, Pat Pierson painted these lobster pot buoys for the Stonington Lobster Pot Tree. Very nice!
