The weather is warming and this time of year I always get the urge to get on the water in my kayak. A quiet and peaceful way to enjoy some time off and explore new areas. The Mystic River affords a wonderful kayak with so much to see. The Mystic Seaport with all the old boats and new, cruise around the basin up there and see older homes, closer to town, the Bascule Drawbridge is fun to sneak under and as you continue heading south the marinas and the swing bridge.

Places you can rent kayaks are Adventure Mystic on Holmes St. where you can also rent bikes and Blue Heaven Kayak on Water St.

Launching for a day of kayaking.

    The upper basin, Mystic Seaport.

Activity during Floatswella, the beautiful old homes in the background. Captain's houses?

Location of Floatswella, a pop-up paddle-craft only rally on the Mystic River, on the left, the band plays on one of docks.

    Heading south.

Paddling with the schooner Argia in the background. She is available for day charters.

In the summer the drawbridge goes up every hour.

A busy day on the river.

Took this photo from the bridge, Mystic River Park is in the background. Our Cottrell St. shop is behind those trees.

You'll need our waterproof bracelets for kayaking!

    Dogs kayak too.

More Floatswella activity, Schooner Wharf and Adventure Mystic on the far shore.

The water is calm enough on the river for most ages.

Keep your hair out of your face with our Celtic hair stick.

Tie up at the dinghy dock at the Mystic River Park and get an ice cream!
